Eaton IDT 516: W4C Blog 3

Chapter 9: What it Really Means discusses the trends of more content online and creation of content Is collaborative.  I have noticed over the past few years in corporate training that training is more online than face to face, and many people on a team collaborate to create training, not just one person, and this is done in a collaborative environment like SharePoint.  In addition, this type of online learning requires consumers of web content need to be editors, they must know how to publish, and manage information. The advantage of this is you have more flexibility, can work at your own process and speed, and organize your content in creative ways. The downside is you need more skills, like grammar, and everyone will see your mistakes. I ended up taking online grammar classes at a community college to address this issue. I was surprised at the number of adults who don’t use based grammar.

There are several shifts in the web. They include  open source class room with access to info on the web, assess to other teachers and available 24/7, social and collaborative learning , teaching move away from lecture, know where to find the answer, web is a note book, not just writing but includes multimedia and image, students demonstrate knowledge in product not test, and contribution not completion is the goal. These shifts allow corporate trainers to be more creative, provide on demand learning that is available when the worker needs the training, can be distributed internationally in minutes, expands resource and quickly can be modified.

The most important thing I learned in this class was how all the pieces tied and integrated together. The central learning piece was using the blog as a one stop shop for many of the internet tools and resources. I will apply this technique at my workplace by simulating a blog with a SharePoint community.  My template includes blogging, RSS feeds, bookmarks and document sharing.

The most important skill I learned was how to design a blog by adding gadgets to the layout. This will save me time in the future and help me quickly grow and expand my collaboration sites.


The most important idea I learned from a classmate during the course was how to design a website. Chris and Samantha had very interesting and creative designs. I liked their format, content and layout. Their viewpoint was interesting because they were teachers.
